When does Menopause occur?
Menopause is officially recognized after a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. However, the body begins preparing for menopause a few years prior to this. As early as the mid-30s, the ovaries start producing less estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The perimenopausal phase usually begins in a woman’s 40s, and menopause typically occurs between the ages of 50-55 for most women.
What are the symptoms of Menopause?
As you go through perimenopause, you may observe that your menstrual cycles become shorter or more irregular. You might also feel a reduction in energy levels and a decline in sexual desire. As you move closer to menopause, you may experience some of the following symptoms:
Trouble sleeping
Hot flashes
Abrupt mood swings
Struggling to focus
Alterations in hair and skin texture
Decreased muscle strength
- Pain and dryness during intercourse due to vaginal dryness
These symptoms arise due to hormonal imbalances and fluctuations, which lead to physical changes and emotional difficulties that many women find challenging to cope with.
What physical changes are associated with Menopause?
Every woman’s experience is unique, and while some physical changes may be attributed to aging rather than menopause, there is a higher likelihood of developing the following conditions:
- Osteoporosis, which leads to decreased bone density
- Heart disease
- Issues with bladder and bowel function
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Poor skin elasticity and increased wrinkling
- Reduced muscle power and tone
What can I do to protect my health during Menopause?
OC Wellness offers various treatments that can effectively slow the aging process, including the effects and symptoms of menopause. It is recommended to have your hormone levels checked as early as age 40. During menopause, women’s hormone levels, specifically their levels of testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone, rapidly decline causing symptoms of hot flashes, poor sleep, decreased libido, mood swings, weight gain or fatigue. In order to combat those symptoms, Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is recommended. Hormones such as estrogen and progesterone can come in the form of topical creams or oral medications, while testosterone can be administered in various ways: daily cream, injections, or pellet insertions performed by Dr. Grossman.
Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy provides numerous benefits such as:
- Increase muscle mass
- Decrease body fat
- Restore sexual libido and sexual performance
- Enhance skin elasticity to prevent wrinkles
- Improve sleep
