What is Botox®?
Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA approved onabotulinumtoxinA that is injected into facial muscles to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults. Botox can also be used to reduce the appearance of platysmal bands, or vertical neck bands, by relaxing the platysma muscles. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles to reduce muscle activity.

How long does it take for Botox® to work?
After Botox® treatment, most people notice the desired effects around the third or fourth day. Full results will be visible within 10 to 14 days.
How long will Botox® results last?
On average, the effects of Botox® last about three to four months. Retreatment is recommended at this time. Your own results may vary—Dr. Grossman will let you know how often you should get Botox® based on your unique needs.
Botox® aftercare
- Exercise treated muscles: Within the first hour after treatment, try to move the muscles you had treated, such as frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting. This helps the treatment work into your muscles.
- Wait at least four hours after treatment before showering and use lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing or massaging your face. Wash your face gently.
- Avoid heat. No saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds, or excessive sweating/physical exertion for 24 hours.
- Stay upright (don’t lie down) for three to four hours.
- Don’t rub or put pressure on the treatment area for 12 hours.
How often should I have Botox® treatments?
Dr. Grossman highly recommends that you pre-book your Botox appointments every three to four months instead of waiting for your results to completely wear off before retreatment. Regular retreatments weaken the treated facial muscles, preventing lines and wrinkles from getting etched into your skin.
