Dr. Michael Grossman shares updates on Covid-19 and recommendations on how to stay safe. You may view the YouTube video here.
Greetings, I’m Dr. Michael, an aging physician, and I’m here to share updates on the Coronavirus. I’ve previously provided information on how to protect yourself from serious illness caused by the virus. Today, I want to highlight some important updates.
First and foremost, new research emphasizes the vital role of vitamin D. I’ve been recommending an average intake of 5000 IUs of vitamin D daily. This dosage has been shown to significantly reduce the severity of Coronavirus-related complications. Maintaining higher vitamin D levels, achievable through the 5000 IUs, is crucial. After about four months of supplementation, it’s wise to check your blood levels to ensure you’re absorbing it effectively. Aim for a level around 55, as levels below 30 are less desirable, and exceeding 85 is excessive.
Moving on, recent research reveals that touching objects is not a primary means of virus transmission. The primary mode of transmission is through airborne droplets. While there’s value in sanitizing frequently-touched surfaces, it’s important to recognize that objects aren’t as significant in the spread as previously thought.
Masks play a pivotal role in curbing the virus’s spread, especially indoors. Enclosed spaces, like shopping areas, benefit from mask usage as they prevent you from spreading or contracting the virus through droplets.
Interestingly, outdoor transmission rates are relatively low due to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which quickly deactivate the virus. Thus, outdoor activities like beach visits and park strolls are generally safe and less likely to contribute to virus transmission, except in crowded spaces.
Notably, children seem to play a limited role in spreading the virus. Children below 15 don’t seem to be primary carriers or spreaders, challenging the notion of keeping them out of school. Grandparents’ health doesn’t appear to be significantly affected by their interactions with children.
The elderly, however, remain the most vulnerable group. Protecting elderly individuals in nursing homes remains a priority.
I continue to recommend immune-boosting measures like anti-inflammatory supplements, turmeric, and immune boosters such as colostrum. These strategies help bolster the immune system’s response to the virus.
If you experience fever and illness for more than two days, consult your doctor. It’s critical to address symptoms promptly. For severe cases, especially with breathlessness, hospitalization may be necessary.
When it comes to seeking medical care, don’t let fear of Coronavirus deter you. Hospital care is essential for various life-threatening conditions. The odds of succumbing to Coronavirus from hospital visits are very low compared to the potential risks of not addressing other urgent medical needs.
For consultations, both in-person and through telehealth, my office is open. Feel free to reach out at 949-222-0232. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to engaging with you further.
