Jeuveau

What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is the newest version of botulinum toxin A, the same active ingredient in the original Botox® Cosmetic. When injected, Jeuveau temporarily prevents your nerves from telling your facial muscles to flex.

Botox® vs Jeuveau

Jeuveau is a botulinum toxin type A injection used in the treatment of wrinkles. This is neurotoxin that works by relaxing muscles beneath the skin. It’s also sometimes called the new Botox® or “Newtox” because it’s a new version of the same active ingredient used in original Botox® Cosmetic injections. While Jeuveau shares some similarities with Botox®, there are key characteristics that make this injection stand apart from other botulinum toxin injections. Jeuveau is the first cosmetic neurotoxin injectable that is FDA-approved solely for the cosmetic enhancement (aesthetic) of a patient’s appearance. Botox® is FDA approved for both medical and cosmetic uses such as treating headaches/migraines, excessive underarm sweating, and other medical conditions. Deciding between Botox® and Jeuveau may depend on trial and error. Some people respond better to one over the other.

How long will Jeuveau results last?

Patients can expect to see results within a few days, with full effects visible within two weeks. The results typically last three to six months, but can vary based on factors like age, lifestyle, and skin condition.

Jeuveau aftercare

After getting Jeuveau injections, you should avoid the following for at least 24 hours:

  • Strenuous exercise: Strenuous exercise can cause the neurotoxin to spread to other areas.
  • Rubbing or massaging: Rubbing or massaging the injection site can cause the neurotoxin to spread.
  • Avoid heat: Facials, saunas, hot tubs, excessive sweating.
  • Lying flat or bending over: Avoid lying flat or bending over for 4 hours after treatment to prevent pressure on the treated areas.

How often should I have Jeuveau treatments?

For maintenance, Dr. Grossman recommends that you schedule your Jeuveau appointments every three to four months instead of waiting for your results to completely wear off before retreatment. Regular retreatments weaken the treated facial muscles, preventing lines and wrinkles from getting etched into your skin.
